Once the snow has retreated to the higher peaks, BC’s unspoilt alpine transforms into a hiker, climber and all around explorer’s paradise. Bag a peak or two and admire sparkling glacier-fed lakes, sweeping vistas and meadows emblazoned with wildflowers. Look out for Indian paintbrush, wild azaleas, lupins, arnica and valerian among the ground-hugging heathers and tiny phacelias in damp rock crevices. The treeline is home to a variety of fauna too. Bring binoculars to spot industrious pikas, mountain goats, ptarmigan and even majestic grizzly bears. Or just chill on the balcony and take in a sunset from the comfort of your lodge.
